What Is the 2017 Allergen of the Year?
David E. Cohen, MD, MPH, updated attendees of the recent 2017 Winter Clinical Dermatology Conference-Hawaii, on the latest trends, news, and research on contact dermatitis.
He noted that the Allergen of the Year includes nonionic surfactants that are widely found in household products, including cosmetic, skin care, hair dyes, cleansing, fragrance and tanning creams. They have emulsifying, cleansing and foaming properties. They are found as a “hidden” allergen in the sunscreen ingredient tinosorb M (Bisoctrizole).
